Unless you’re in the trade, it’s unlikely you spend much time thinking about your boiler on the average day. But that doesn’t mean it’s not working hard to make sure you and your family are looked after. Although the weather doesn’t seem to know what it wants to do yet, we’re confident we will have some sun before the end of the year!

When it heats up, we might be using our heating as much, but that doesn’t mean your boiler’s not in use. People take more showers on average, for example after sports or just to cool down! But whether your boiler is taking a summer break or working overtime through the hot weather, we’ve got some tips on how to take care of your boiler, for whenever you need it.

1. Take cooler, shorter showers to ease strain on your boiler and lower your water usage. Not only will your boiler thank you, your bank account will too!

2. Turn on the heating for short, ten minute bursts every month. You might not feel like it, but if you leave your system offline for long periods, you’re in danger of your boiler seizing up and increase the risk of corrosion. Just like with anything, if it’s not used for a while, dust can accumulate, and this is a particular nuisance in a boiler.

3. Check in on your boiler every now and then. In this case you’re looking for fault warning lights, as well as more telling signals such as leaks, cracks, odd noises or black marks. Unfortunately, just because it’s the summer, doesn’t mean you won’t have a breakdown, and you’ll find it much easier to sort out now.

4. Get your boiler serviced! It’s generally a gas engineers quietest time of the year, so why not take advantage and book an appointment that works for you. Book my appointment now.
